Connecticut Health Insurance
Having a health insurance policy is important to citizens in every state. Connecticut is no exception. The state government realizes this as well.
On Monday, July 1, 2008, the first applicants to the new affordable Connecticut health insurance plan signed up for the policy. It is known as “Charter Oak insurance”. This new policy covers those who don’t qualify for state run programs and don’t get insurance from their employer. As with many states, Connecticut is working to improve the accessibility of health insurance.
Connecticut Health Insurance Basics
Most employers offer insurance to their employees as part of their benefits package. Companies can get group discount rates with HMO’s and other insurance policies. Because companies buy insurance packages in bulk, they end up being cheaper for consumers.
CT Health Insurance Law
Connecticut citizens have a distinct advantage when applying for insurance through employers. Unlike most states, an insurance company cannot deny you coverage based on preexisting medical conditions. No matter how ill you may be, no company can deny you medical coverage or raise your insurance premiums. You have no need to conceal your health status.
Connecticut health insurance law also protects those that are in career transition. Under the COBRA law, you should be able to keep your insurance policy as you make the job change. However, your term of coverage may be temporary. Make sure you check into your companies COBRA policy before you make the career change to avoid any possible gaps in your coverage.
