Hawaii Health Insurance Basics

In Hawaii, almost 90% of employers offer health insurance coverage to their employees.  That’s good news, since it is much easier to be approved for a group health insurance policy than it is to find individual health insurance.  As in most states, there are certain mandated benefits that all Hawaii health insurance plans must include.

  3. Are a victim of domestic abuse.

Hawaii Health Insurance Law

The reason why most Hawaii residents have health insurance is because this state passed a law called the Prepaid Health Care Act. This law says that all employers must provide health insurance to anyone who works at least 20 hours a week for four weeks in a row, earning at least 86.67 times the minimum wage.

You cannot be excluded for preexisting conditions with this law!

Because most people work at least part-time, this health insurance law is the reason why over 90% of all Hawaii residents have a Hawaii health insurance policy covering them and their families.

In Hawaii, the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is the government entity that regulates health insurance.
